Ryan Reynolds, Match.com, and the Days of Noah

I recently saw two lighthearted and comedic commercials for a match.com ad campaign with Ryan Reynolds. One is called “Match Made in Hell” and one is called “When Satan met 2020.” You can watch these below. The ads interested me because I am currently leaning toward the “Angel view” interpretation of Genesis 6 and many other biblical passages as this view explains well a major prophetic theme in the Bible. The commercials may just be coincidence. Or maybe, the Evil One is mocking the unsuspecting world. Or both. Do you recall the words of Kaiser Soze in the movie, The Usual Suspects? He said, “The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”

Jesus said: “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

What are the Days of Noah??

Genesis 6:1-8= And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God [fallen angels] saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose…the sons of God [fallen angels] came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them… And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually… And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth… But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Jude 6-7= And the angels [the sons of god who came in unto the daughters of men] which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

2 Peter 2-4= For if God spared not the angels that sinned [by having sexual relations with the daughters of men], but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example unto those that after should live ungodly.

These lighthearted commercials show Satan coming from his abode to date a daughter of men. Probably no big thing- just an innocent and funny portrayal of the wickedness of the Days of Noah. Anyway, the words of Jesus are still weighty and true.
